explai.com, is a fast-moving Berlin AI startup on a mission to simplify data analytics for non-experts by building agents that automate data science workflows with deep business knowledge. We incorporated in 2024, launched our public sandbox in spring 2025, had run several proof of value by summer and are now ramping up our first paid customer installations. We work remotely today but plan to open our Berlin office in 2026. We are bright, no-nonsense problem-solvers who move fast with high autonomy, minimal meetings, and maximum mutual respect. Don't come for the money, though we pay fairly. You will work hard (we ship every week), learn a ton, and make friends for life.
The Role
Ownership: Joining a team of six, you will own our frontend and shape how users interact with our AI agents. This goes far beyond the typical chatbot interface—you'll build rich, interactive data analytics experiences with dynamic visualizations, explorable datasets, and actionable outputs that users can manipulate directly.
Agentic: A core part of your work will be teaching our agents to generate dynamic UIs on the fly using the AG-UI protocol, enabling them to craft tailored interfaces for each analytics task rather than forcing results into static templates.
Customizable: As we onboard new enterprise customers, you'll design a highly customizable frontend architecture that integrates seamlessly into diverse corporate environments, branding requirements, and existing toolchains.
End-to-End: You'll think end-to-end about the data science user journey: from how users frame questions and provide context, through how agents communicate their reasoning and progress, to how final insights are presented, explored, and shared. Your work will define what accessible, trustworthy AI-powered analytics feels like.
What You'll Do
- Build and iterate on our React/Next.js frontend, translating complex agent behaviors into clear, actionable user experiences
- Design real-time interfaces that surface agent reasoning, progress, and interactive data analytics results in consistent ways non-technical users can understand and trust
- Implement robust error handling and loading states that gracefully communicate the inherent uncertainty of AI systems
- Collaborate closely with backend engineers to design APIs to interact with agents and data artifacts
- Collaborate with technical partners and customer IT departments to customize solutions to their needs
- Optimize performance for enterprise-scale usage with large datasets and concurrent agent sessions
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor degree (or higher) and existing EU work permit
- 5+ years experience building production React applications, ideally with Next.js and TypeScript
- Comfort working across the stack when needed including Python and FastAPI
- Delivered enterprise applications with active daily users —bonus points for AI/ML or data tools
- Track record designing engaging UX for complex systems without the help of a designer
- Familiarity with real-time interfaces (streaming responses, optimistic updates)
- Startup mentality: comfortable with ambiguity, rapid iteration, and owning problems end-to-end
